The American University of Beirut has long been admired for the strength and breadth of its academic programs and its commitment to a broad-based liberal arts education. All entering undergraduate students are required to complete a number of general education courses that provide them with the opportunity to explore many different disciplines. The University's Faculties of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, Health Sciences, Medicine (which includes the Rafic Hariri School of Nursing), and the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business offer more than 120 undergraduate and graduate programs.
In addition, AUB also offers a select number of PhD programs in Arab and Middle Eastern History, Arabic language and literature, cell and molecular biology, theoretical physics, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, and environmental and water resources engineering.
